Durational Job Opportunities in Education

The below opportunities are available in schools across the state, and those interested should inquire with the school district where they would like to work.

Substitute Authorization (No BA/BS)

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with school-age children

Authorized to serve no more than 40 days in the same assignment.


Long-Term Substitute Authorization


Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS
  • At least 12 credits in content/area to be taught

Authorized to serve in the same assignment beyond 40 days.

Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid CT educator certificate in another teaching area or enrollment in a program leading to certification
  • At least 12 credits in content/area to be taught

Opportunities for College Students

The NextGen Educators program creates an innovative approach that connect districts with new talent, while allowing college students to gain classroom experience. This program will bring highly motivated students into classrooms that have the most critical need - and is designed to be flexible for districts. More information is included in this November release. 

This program is currently open at Central Connecticut State University, and is in the process of being expanded to more campuses.
