Attorney General William Tong today, as part of a coalition of 19 attorneys general, filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Education’s threat to withhold federal funding from state and local agencies that refuse to abandon lawful programs and policies that promote equal access to education in K-12 classrooms across the nation.

Attorney General Tong to Sue Trump Administration to Stop Dismantling of AmeriCorps
Attorney General William Tong, as part of a multistate coalition, announced he will file a lawsuit today challenging the Trump Administration’s termination of AmeriCorps grants and the dismantling of the agency through an 85 percent reduction of its workforce, effectively ending the agency’s ability to continue administering the programs, operations, and funding that make its important work possible.

Attorney General Tong Announces Purdue Pharma and Sackler Family to Pay $7.4 Billion to Victims, Survivors and States in Settlement in Principle
Attorney General William Tong today announced a $7.4 billion settlement in principle between states, victims and members of the Sackler family and their company Purdue Pharma, Inc. (Purdue) for their role in the opioid crisis. The settlement in principle adds $1.4 billion more than the prior settlement invalidated by the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2024, while also accelerating aid to states and victims to fund opioid treatment and recovery.

Attorney General William Tong today announced enforcement actions against two online distributors of bootleg GLP-1 weight loss drugs. Both sell “research grade” GLP-1 peptides direct to Connecticut consumers for weight loss without prescriptions or any medical oversight.

Attorney General Tong Supports Challenge to Trump Administration’s Unconstitutional Ideological Deportation Policy
Attorney General William Tong today joined a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in American Association of University Professors, et al., v. Marco Rubio, et al. in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, supporting a challenge to the Trump Administration’s “Ideological Deportation Policy,” which targets and punishes noncitizens with lawful status, especially college students and faculty, who express political beliefs with which the Administration disagrees.
