Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Today to Honor Fallen Firefighters
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, in response to a proclamation issued by President Barack Obama, has ordered U.S. and Connecticut flags to fly at half-staff on Sunday, October 6, 2013 in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Gov. Malloy: Capital Region Development Authority Closes on its First Housing Project
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), the quasi-state agency created in 2012 to stimulate economic development in the capital region, has closed on the financing of 201 Ann Uccello Street, which will convert an existing Class B commercial office building into 26 one-bedroom units with street level commercial use.

Gov. Malloy: During Federal Shutdown, State Will Help Bridgeport Head Start Remain Open
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state will provide $800,000 in expedited funds to help ensure that the Head Start program in Bridgeport remains open in the weeks ahead. The Governor was joined by local officials and directors at the Head Start center at 1070 Park Avenue in Bridgeport.

Gov. Malloy: Four Sandy Relief Centers to Open in Fairfield, New Haven Counties
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the state will open four intake centers October 24 in East Haven, Fairfield, Milford, and Norwalk to provide one-on-one assistance to homeowners seeking disaster assistance for losses caused by Storm Sandy.

Gov. Malloy: Investment in Higher Education is Critical to Creating Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today, joined by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, UConn President Susan Herbst, state lawmakers and other UConn officials, held a ceremonial bill signing to celebrate the final approval of the Governor’s Next Generation Connecticut (#NextGenCT) legislative initiative, which passed the Connecticut General Assembly with bipartisan support earlier this year.

Gov. Malloy: Regulatory Review at State Agencies Will Increase Transparency and Provide Greater Opportunities for Economic Growth
At a meeting with small business leaders, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he signed an Executive Order (EO) aimed at streamlining state regulations. EO 37 invites public comment on all state regulations more than four years old, asking for the public's help in identifying regulations that are obsolete, duplicative, excessively burdensome, or otherwise ineffective or unnecessary. The EO also establishes principles of smart, cost-effective, accessible and transparent regulations for future agency endeavors.

Gov. Malloy: State Receives $3 Million Grant to Expand Training and Employment Assistance for People with Disabilities
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Office of Workforce Competitiveness has been awarded $3,058,706 from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide additional education, training and employment opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. The grant will be used to better connect with those individuals who need assistance and related services that will help them overcome barriers to employment.

Gov. Malloy to Con Edison: Repairs to MTA Feeder Cable Need to be Completed Sooner
Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Friday afternoon wrote a letter to Kevin Burke, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Consolidated Edison Corporation, urging the utility company to prioritize repairs to the MTA feeder cables on the New Haven Line and explaining that the current scheduled completion date is unacceptable.
