Conn. and NY Sue Federal EPA over Failure to Control Ozone Pollution from Upwind States
The states of Connecticut and New York have filed a federal lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its administrator, Scott Pruitt, over the agency's failure to adequately control ozone pollution from other states that negatively impacts air quality in the two downwind states, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

Attorney General George Jepsen today joined a coalition of 13 attorneys general in filing comments with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services opposing the Trump Administration's proposal to limit access to women's healthcare by imposing unconstitutional restrictions to the Title X program.

State Files False Claims Act Lawsuit against East Hartford Behavioral Health Provider
The state has filed a lawsuit against an East Hartford-based licensed clinical social worker and her company alleging that they billed the state's Medicaid program for services that were not provided to Medicaid recipients, in violation of the Connecticut False Claims Act, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said today.

Conn. Leads Settlement with Career Education Corp., Will Bring $493.7M in Debt Relief for Students
For-profit education company Career Education Corp. (CEC) has agreed to reform its recruiting and enrollment practices and will forgo collecting approximately $493.7 million in debts owed by 179,529 students nationally through a settlement with 49 attorneys general, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

Attorney General Reaches False Claims Act Settlement with Mass. Laboratory over Medically Unnecessary Drug Tests
A Massachusetts-based clinical laboratory will forfeit $656,912 and be excluded from participation in Connecticut's Medicaid program for 10 years as part of a settlement agreement with the state, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said today.

State Reaches False Claims Act Settlement with Norwich Behavioral Health Practice
A Norwich behavioral health practice and its co-owners, a mother and her daughter who are both licensed behavioral health clinicians, have agreed to a $300,000 settlement to resolve alleged violations of Connecticut's False Claims Act, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said today.

AG Jepsen Leads 50 States, District of Columbia, in $575M Settlement with Wells Fargo
Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that Wells Fargo Bank N.A. will pay $575 million to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws by (1) opening millions of unauthorized accounts and enrolling customers into online banking services without their knowledge or consent, (2) improperly referring customers for enrollment in third-party renters and life insurance policies, (3) improperly charging auto loan customers for force-placed and unnecessary collateral protection insurance, (4) failing to ensure that customers received refunds of unearned premiums on certain optional auto finance products, and (5) incorrectly charging customers for mortgage rate lock extension fees.

Attorney General George Jepsen has joined with 19 other state attorneys general in urging federal Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to reject proposals that would significantly limit the ability of students who have been victimized by predatory for-profit schools to discharge their student loan debt.

Connecticut Joins Lawsuit to Protect State, Municipalities from Unlawful Restrictions on Federal Public Safety Grants
Connecticut has joined a coalition of states in filing a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions challenging efforts to put unlawful and unconstitutional immigration-related conditions on federal law enforcement grants, Attorney General George Jepsen and Governor Dannel P. Malloy said today.
